Superintendent shares

Greetings Warrior Families!

Last night the Kootenai School Board approved the plan that will allow us to re-open our schools on September 8. (The plan is posted on our website and soon on our new Facebook page.) The four items of the plan I am most asked about are:

  1. We will be open for face-to-face student instruction 5 full days a week.
  2. Staff and students will be required to wear either face masks and/or face shields when social distancing is not possible. Mask breaks will be provided for students throughout the day.
  3. An on-line option is available for students.
  4. Athletics is currently still available.

These items were important to families that responded to our survey. 74% of families wanted regular school with an option for on-line learning. In order to accomplish this, we needed to require face coverings as maintaining social distancing is not always possible; even with the smaller class sizes we have at Kootenai. If you are interested in the on-line option, please contact the school.

However, there is still much work to be done. Administration will be working with staff to create detailed plans on what the school day will look like in each building. Once these details are in place, videos will be created to help explain to students and families the expectations for school this fall.

We all understand that we are living in a time of great change. There are many questions as to what our future will hold and what public education will become. I believe that by working together, this is our chance to make something even more special for the Kootenai School District students and their families.
